As a cold massage, it eases swelling and minimizes initial internal bleeding from acute injuries such as sprains and strains. With hot water it provides a warm, soothing massage that promotes healing by increasing surface cirulation. (When using heat, always place a towel between skin and applicator.) Empty it is useful for general massage.
