Using the low end of the Sound Asleep® Pillow will assist you in reducing the incidence of snoring by opening obstructed or narrow air passages and reducing "physical obstructive breathing" during sleep. It does this by promoting the alignment of your head, neck and throat towards the side.. 

• Facilitates the positioning of your head to the side while sleeping on your back.

          Snoring is usually worse while sleeping on the back. This pillow has a firm elevated piece of  high-density foam, that stretches  across the center of the pillow that causes your head to be  gently positioned to the side while sleeping on the back. As a result, critical air passages are less likely to become obstructed or narrowed by the collapse of the soft palate and the tongue and snoring is less likely to occur. 

• Why Do People Snore?

          Snoring is often related to "physical obstructive breathing" during sleep. The physical obstruction occurs when the muscles of the soft palate, the uvula, and at times, the tonsils relax during deep sleep, obstructing or narrowing the upper airway. 

When air flows through an obstructed or narrowed upper airway, turbulence increases. This causes pressure fluctuations that make the surrounding tissue vibrate. The soft palate, because it hangs loosely in the throat, usually vibrates the most. However, all of the tissues in the upper airway participate in make the snoring noise. 

When the natural upper airway passage is cleared, there is almost always a reduction in snoring and corresponding depth and/or ease of the sleeping state. The deeper and easier the breath, the deeper the sleep.

Foam insert composed of firm, hypoallergenic, polyurethane foam, 2.00 - 2.20 pounds per cubic foot, CA 117 fire retardant. Spot wash foam by hand. Machine washable 100% cotton pillow protector with nylon zipper.
